Gary Young was born in Hampton, Virginia, and grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska. He graduated with honors in 1989 from Brandeis University, and after college, he returned to Lincoln and spearheaded the development of a local bottled water company under the label “Planet Earth Distilled Drinking Water.”

Mr. Young obtained his legal education at the University of Nebraska College of Law where he served as an Executive Editor of The Nebraska Law Review, and received the George DeLacy Prize for achievement in constitutional law. Upon graduation from law school with high distinction in 1995, Mr. Young was elected to the Order of the Coif. He then served as judicial law clerk to the Honorable John F. Wright of the Nebraska Supreme Court, before joining the firm in 1997.

Mr. Young’s practice focuses on labor disputes and labor law, including representing a wide variety of public sector trade unions in collective bargaining. Included among these clients are many of the major leading law enforcement unions in the State of Nebraska. Mr. Young has represented police officers and other law enforcement officials in officer involved shooting incidents, in custody deaths, and before grand juries.

Mr. Young also practices business law, representing parties in commercial litigation, representing creditors in the bankruptcy court, and advising a wide variety of local businesses. He also serves as adjunct professor in Legal Writing at the University of Nebraska College of Law, where he is a Harold W. Kauffman Legal Writing Fellow.

Mr. Young has been admitted to practice before the Nebraska state and federal district courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. He is a member of the Nebraska and Lincoln Bar Associations.

Mr. Young and his wife, Jennifer, have four children.
